Summer 2014 | Back on the Road Again...
Russ
Payne and the Shark Dentists are back on the road after spending time
in the studio adding new material to their stage show and preparing to
record their third album. A second single and video from their album In
Love With Trouble has just been released, called We Can All Do Better. Russ
and the Sharks will continue to mix classy original material with their
trademark covers of blues/rock classics (from Clapton, Cream, Hendrix
and Peter Green to ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and Joe Bonamassa). They are

Sharks headline at three festivals

Unfazed by snow, high water and venue closures, Russ Payne and the
Shark Dentists kept gigging through the winter - and also put the
finishing touches to the recording of their second album.

with a memorable Christmas gig at the Cat and Wheel, Bristol – with all
the traditional elements, including women rock’n’roll dancing and
throwing themselves on stage to sing with Russ.

THE Shark
Dentists’
‘live’ CD, No Damn Noose, has been selling well all through this year
at gigs across the UK. Now the band is busy putting together new and
original blues/rock material for a second album to be recorded in
autumn/winter 2012. Meanwhile, the band plays the last of four festival
dates this summer with a performance at the Ale At Amberley Festival,
in West Sussex, on September 1.

Setting festivals on fire
After
Staffordshire’s
Miner’s Rest Beer Festival, Oxfordshire’s Wallingford Blues and Beer
Festival and south London’s Tootstock, Russ and the Sharks are warming
up for headlining at the Ale At Amberley Festival, in West Sussex, on
September 1, their fourth festival gig of the summer. Great videos of
some of the band’s best festival performances can now be viewed on the videos page.
The band’s live CD, No Damn Noose, has been selling well at gigs, and
the band plans to record again towards the end of 2012.

Festival success for the Sharks
AFTER a
great show at the
Miner’s Rest Beer Festival, Staffordshire, the Sharks played an
acclaimed high-energy set at the Wallingford Blues and Beer Festival,
Oxfordshire where they played support for the Mud Morganfield Band
(eldest son of the legendary Muddy Waters).
Other festival dates coming up include Tootstock, in
Tooting, south London, on June 30, and the Ale At Amberley Festival, in
West Sussex, on 1st September.
The band’s live CD, No Damn Noose, has been selling well at gigs, and

Shark Dentists are marking
summer 2012 with a string of festival
dates. After headlining at the Miner’s Rest Beer Festival in
Staffordshire, they will be at the Wallingford Blues and Beer Festival,
Oxfordshire, on June 1 (supporting Mud Morganfield, son and musical
heir of the legendary Muddy Waters). They will also top the bill at
Tootstock in south London on June 30, and be the main attraction at the
Ale At Amberley Festival on September 1.

THE Shark Dentists gigs
throughout
March just got better and better. Our special thanks go to audiences in
Oxford, Didcot, Stevenage and Guildford for making us so welcome, and
for asking us to come back again. We certainly will.
With the
band’s live CD selling well at gigs and fresh material in the show,
there are now plans to film a live video.
Other
exciting
prospects for the band, apart from playing on the same bill as Mud
Morganfield, son of Muddy Waters, in June, include the possibility of
playing alongside the legendary Wilko Johnson next year.

Muddy’s son plays with the Sharks
THE big news
for Russ
Payne and the Shark Dentists this month is the announcement that they
will play support to the Mud Morganfield Band in June at the
Wallingford Blues Festival. Mud is the son and musical heir of the
revered blues singer Muddy Waters.
And on June 30th the Shark Dentists will top the bill at the Tootstock
festival in Tooting, London where, as last year, the drumming legend
John
Marshall (Soft Machine, Jack Bruce Band) will sit in with them.
The Sharks played memorable gigs in Oxford, London, Sussex and
Cheltenham in February, and continued to sell lots of copies of their
new CD. To hear tracks from the album go to the music

BBC radio show plugs the Shark
Dentists
With the
Shark Dentists
establishing their monthly blues/rock residency
at the Port Mahon, BBC Radio Oxford invited Russ Payne into the studio
at the end of January to talk about the band, the gigs and the new
‘live’ album, ‘No Damn Noose’.
The Sharks played fantastic gigs in Wokingham, Hitchin, Brighton and
Witney in January, and on two occasions copies of the new CD were sold
out. The new collection features some of the band’s favourite stage
numbers, and was engineered and mixed by the great Simon
Scardanelli. You can hear tracks from the album on the music
page.

The Port Mahon
The Shark Dentists will be playing at the Port
Mahon
on Monday 6th Feb
and regularly on the first Monday of each month. This is an
opportunity to see Russ Payne and the Shark Dentists live (for free)
and the band are also inviting like-minded blues musicians in the area

along and make it a regular live music event. Instrumentalists who

Maximum blues/rock across the UK
November was a great month for the Shark
Dentists,
with memorable nights at
Sydenham Blues Club in London, the Port Mahon in Oxford, and the Green
Man in Aylesbury. And special thanks to Barry and his blues-loving
regulars at The Ranelagh, in Brighton, for helping to create a really
great gig.
The Sharks are so taken with Brighton that they will not only be back
at The Ranelagh on January 15, but they’re recording a new ‘live’ CD in
the city at Dr Scardo’s studio in December.

The Sharks play the blues to
brighten up
your autumn and winter
Arguably the best and most exciting modern electric blues trio on the
circuit, the Shark Dentists are currently adding lots of extra dates to
their line-up of gigs for autumn and winter 2011/12.
They’ve also been rehearsing additional new material which reflects a
range of influences from the old days (Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac,
Derek and the Dominos) to the present day (Joe Bonamassa, Tom Waits).

Shark Dentists back on the road
after
Tootstock triumph
The highlight of the Shark Dentists’ July gigs was their bill-topping
appearance at the annual Tootstock festival in Tooting, south London.
And for their second set at Tooting they were joined on stage by
drumming legend John
Marshall
(Jack Bruce Band, Soft Machine) whose playing set the band - and the
festival - alight.
With John Marshall taking over the drums, the Sharks regular drummer
was able to pick up the blues harp for an electrifying four-piece
maximum blues/rock performance.

The Sharks are now planning a series of gigs this autumn which will
culminate in a return to the Red Hot Blues Club in Oxfordshire. Dates
in London, Surrey, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Bucks and Brighton are
also being planned.

Shark Dentists on the road
The Shark Dentists played some memorable gigs
in
May. They’d particularly like to thank the regulars at The Retreat,
Reading, for being such an appreciative audience. And they’d also like
to thank Jean at The Portcullis, Bristol, for her great outdoor stage -
and a very long extension cable!
Classics such as Bell Bottom Blues (Clapton) and Little Wing (Hendrix)
which have recently been added to the Sharks’ “live” set are getting a
good reception - along with the band’s own bluesy take on Bad Things
from TV’s True Blood series.
The Sharks will be back in Bristol on June 10 for a return appearance
at the Cat and Wheel. And on July 23, they will top the bill at the
annual SummerFest at The Castle, Tooting, where they will be appearing
for the fourth year running.

May sees a new Shark
Dentists ‘live’
video go
up on YouTube, to give a flavour of their Maximum Blues Rock stage
show. It’s a funky version of Free’s ‘I’m A Mover'.
After the success of the Sharks’ rock ’n’ roll medley at recent private
functions, the band have added great rockers like Bullfrog Blues,
Wipeout, Hound Dog and Johnny B Goode to their set. Other recently
added material includes Bell Bottom Blues (by Derek and the Dominos),
Hey Joe (by Jimi Hendrix) and Rolling In The Hay (by the Sharks lead
guitarist and vocalist Russ Payne).

The
Shark Dentists play fiery and funky rocking blues . . .
March sees three new 'live' videos on the
Shark
Dentists’ website — plus 10 new 'live' recordings from their Maximum
Blues Rock stage show. The tracks now on the website include the
Sharks’ own versions of Cream's 'Badge', Free’s 'I’m A Mover', ZZ Top’s
'A Fool For Your Stockings' and Fleetwood Mac’s 'Black Magic Woman'.
Russ Payne’s guitar was on fire at the Sharks’ last February gig, in
Oxfordshire, when the band was joined on stage by Ray the Sax Man for
an extended and totally funky version of “Strange Brew”, Eric Clapton’s
tribute to electric blues master Albert King.

The Shark Dentists’ new

Sharks’ new
blues show goes down a storm . . .
November
was a
memorable month for the Shark Dentists. They’d especially like to thank
Bernie and Jane for organising a great night at The Retreat, Reading,
and Rem for letting us put on a blistering show on a freezing cold
night at the Cat and Wheel, Bristol. Both pubs are great venues for
live music and audiences at both gave the Sharks a warm reception.

The Shark Dentists will
be back on

virtuoso Russ Payne.

Blues/rockers
the Shark Dentists helped raise nearly £1,400 for Propsect Hospice when
they joined six other great bands for an open-air festival in Swindon
in July.
And in August they headline at the annual SummerFest, in Tooting, south
London, which will raise funds for InterPal (Helping Palestinians in
Need). The band have now started lining up gigs for their autumn/winter
schedule in Surrey, the Midlands and the West Country.

in February with a gig at The Retreat. The band would like to thank

The Shark
Dentists started 2010 with their first foray into Bristol. Their gig at
The Prom drew applause and approval - and the promise of a quick return
booking.
January also saw another great night at the King’s Arms, Dorking, in
Surrey,
which has one of the most appreciative audiences on the Sharks’
circuit. The band will be back there too on July 25. And the Shark
Dentists have been confirmed to top the bill at the annual SummerFest
at The Castle, Tooting, South London, on August 28.

The
Shark Dentists
celebrated Christmas with a special gig at The Bulldog, Swindon, and
would like to say a big thank you to Geoff and Annie for their
hospitality.
The weather played havoc with the winter schedule, but our drummer
managed to get through to the Sun at Liddington for a couple of jam
nights led by guitarist Paul Gibbs of the Paul Weller tribute band
Wildwood. Thanks to Andy at the Sun for hosting these sessions.

Welsh Newton Hall, Monmouth.
Then they return for more gigs in the Swindon area, including a
special party night at the Bulldog.
